Monthly Marketing Tip:

HURRY UP AND WAIT!!!! Welcome to the unique world of the actor’s waiting room. Below are a list of do’s and don’ts for both parents and kids.  It is important for parents to understand their role in casting. Many talented kids lose out on opportunities due to pushy parents.  I hope this guideline will help in defining appropriate, and inappropriate behavior.

DO:

* Arrive 15 minutes prior to scheduled audition time

* Have extra copies of your child’s headshot, and resumes

* Dress modestly, and comfortably (parents too!!)
* Turn off cell phones and beepers

* Keep your child focused

* Be ready when they call your name

* Call your agent and let them know you made it to the casting on time, and thank them for thinking of you

* Reward your child after an audition

DON'T:

* Bring the entire family - only the perfomer and one parent should attend

* Talk loud and socialize

* Ask for feedback

* Coach your child WHILE they are auditioning

* Sell the casting director on your child

* Arrive late

* Ask them to hurry or ask how long it is going to take

* Ask if they can do it again

* Tell your child all the things they did wrong

Networking

Wednesday, December 16, 2009
The reality of being discovered in today's industry is not going to happen with the submission of a photo or being seen in a coffee shop. This method may have worked in the past, however it was typically during the 30's and 40's when the industry was in its infancy.
Today, the real key to success is the ability to ''sell yourself''.
Even if you are currently in an acting program or an aspiring model represented by a local agency, you still may wonder ''Why am I not part of the industry?"...
Networking is the answer.
Understanding how to properly network amongst others gives you the ability to be recognized and noticed in today's world. Our company provides regular meetings and important tips on how to be noticed.

Ashley Greene

Friday, November 20, 2009
Ashley Greene initially planned to become a model.
But was told that she was not tall enough at 5'5" to be a runway model and should instead focus on commercials. After taking commercial and acting classes, she fell in love with acting and realized that she preferred it over modeling. Greene thus graduated from high school early at the age of 17 and moved to L.A. to pursue an acting career. Since then, she has appeared as a guest on many popular television programs, such as Punk'd and Crossing Jordan. Greene's big break came in 2008 when she was cast as Alice Cullen in Twilight, a film based on the novel of the same name by Stephenie Meyer. She reprised her role as Alice in the 2009 sequel to Twilight, The Twilight Saga: New Moon, and 2010's The Twilight Saga: Eclipse.

Joey Paul Jensen - Master Class

Tuesday, September 29, 2009
This past Friday evening, casting director Joey Paul Jensen (Bratz, Cory in the House, and Raise Your Voice starring Hilary Duff) came to JRP Rockville to teach a master class to some of our current students. The first hour was spent answering parents' questions about various aspects of the entertainment industry and what they should expect as their children pursue opportunities in L.A. and elsewhere. The last two hours were spent directly with the students, working on commercials and monologues, and how they could improve their auditioning skills.

Thanks to Joey Paul for a great class!! Be on the lookout for future master classes that will be held at JRP Rockville with other professionals in the entertainment industry!
